Virtual Desktop (VDI)
Implementing or expanding virtual desktops introduces complexity and can greatly influence the user experience—both positively and negatively.
The Spadafy VDI User Experience Assessment takes an industry-leading approach to diagnose and optimize virtual desktop environments. Our team focuses on infrastructure, delivery models, and—most importantly—the experience of your users.
We use advanced analytics tools, department walk-throughs, user interviews, and detailed benchmarking to pinpoint where your organization excels and where improvements can enhance performance. Our engineers have designed and delivered user-focused VDI solutions since the early days of VDI and SBC. They provide clear, actionable insights that strengthen desktop delivery and ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience.

USER EXPERIENCE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
These metrics reflect benchmarks we’ve achieved in highly optimized virtual desktop and server-based computing environments. If your results fall outside the ranges below, our VDI User Experience Assessment can identify the cause and provide clear recommendations. We help optimize configurations, suggest alternative software solutions, and implement toolkits that enhance overall user experience.
Overall User Experience Score
The Overall User Experience Score combines key performance metrics to measure how often users work without resource constraints during active computing time. We primarily evaluate CPU, RAM, disk performance, network latency, application faults, and other system limits.
At the start of each engagement, we establish a performance benchmark and monitor results as we implement changes. This process helps us track measurable improvements in user experience over time. We can also compare these metrics to your physical desktop environment to evaluate the effectiveness of your VDI deployment.
Initial Logon w/ Badge Tap
In a non-persistent VDI environment, the initial logon usually marks the first connection of the day for each user. We measure this using a combination of analytics benchmarks and hands-on testing. For customers who use alternative authentication methods such as Imprivata or HealthCast, we also include the time required for their software to launch.
Reconnect w/ Imprivata Badge Tap
We measure reconnect time in two scenarios: when users roam between devices and when they return to the same machine. In enterprise environments that use alternative authentication systems such as HealthCast or Imprivata, we record the time it takes to fully reconnect to a disconnected session. This differs from simply unlocking an endpoint and returning to an existing session, where the reconnect should occur instantly.
App Launch – Locally Installed
This metric captures how long it takes for an application installed on the VDI or SBC image to open from the moment a user double-clicks until it reaches the logon screen or a fully working state.
App Launch – Citrix XenApp / Horizon RDS / RemoteApp
This metric captures how long it takes for an application delivered through Citrix XenApp, VMware RDS, or Microsoft RemoteApp to open from the moment a user double-clicks until it reaches the logon screen or a fully functional state.
These benchmarks represent just a portion of the insights captured during a Spadafy User Experience Assessment. To learn more or request a sample report, contact our team at info@spadafy.com and discover how we can help optimize your VDI environment.
What’s included in a Spadafy VDI UX Report?
KPI Assessment
Review of your organization’s environment and compare it against industry benchmarks to deliver actionable recommendations. Our team identifies the performance timing of each component in your hardware and software stack, then provides guidance to help you reach or exceed the results achieved by top-performing VDI deployments. We can assist directly with remediation and optimization efforts, or your administrative team can apply our recommendations to guide future strategy.
User Experience Recommendations
Actionable insights on your users’ workflow and issues. When working with customers these have varied from a specific application that requires 10-12 clicks to be productive to extended application launch times, or lack of personalization / location awareness. We’ll identify end user pain points and provide solutions to help overcome these challenges.
Component Impact Report
Perform a detailed analysis of every component in your VDI environment—from hardware and server infrastructure to network performance, thin clients, and desktop delivery software. Our team uses a straightforward rating system to evaluate how each component or software solution affects user productivity. Based on these insights, we provide clear recommendations to enhance workflow, optimize performance, and improve the overall user experience.
Strategy and Planning Guidance
Many organizations leveraging VDI have plans to expand that have been put on hold either by budget constraints or by user experience issues. We’ll help provide guidance on budgetary options, and best practices for expansion. We’re 100% vendor agnostic and engineering focused, so our recommendations are always geared towards providing the highest possible user experience at the lowest cost.
We’re Cloud Friendly
Our VDI UX assessment can be focused on your on-prem deployment, cloud hosted VDI, or hybrid. If you’re considering migrating to cloud hosting we can also help identify areas to focus on to optimize your user experience. Being vendor agnostic also means cloud agnostic, we’ll give you real world recommendations. In some cases cloud is a great fit, in other cases it may not be.
